first lay your piece of hessian down on to a bin bag or newspaper
make sure to dab it on, and not to go over the lines, i did the layer of paint quite thick.
next decide what you want to put on your cushion, i decided to put product of great britain, so i looked at the fabric and decided the best placeing to ensure the words would be in the centre.
use the stencil, and dab the paint over it, dont worry if it bleeds a bit this adds to the grain sack look. i held the fabric under the fire after each letter to dry it so i didnt smudge it, and cleaned the stencil each time, this is quite time consuming after each letter but its worth it.

Your cushion looks fab! Thanks for the tutorial! It's great to see things that have been so painstakingly stencilled; I think it really gives your cushion an authentic look

I love hessian and have been trying to find out if I can paint it and so found your blog. May I ask, what type of paint did you use? Fabric paint?
